Annadaan- is an integral part of EastBay HCC/Vijay's Sherawali Temple. Groceries donated are used for Pujas, Prasad, Langar, and anything that is left over we donate back to the community. Sometimes this may be the only time someone can get a hot, nutritious meal, in a judgement free zone. As Steve Jobs famously mentioned during Stanford's commencement speech "I didn't have a dorm room, so I slept on the floor in friends' rooms. I returned coke bottles for the 5¢ deposits to buy food with. And I would walk the 7 miles across town every Sunday night to get one good meal a week at the Hare Krishna temple. I loved it."
There is a verse in Atharvaveda, "शतहस्त समाहर सहस्त्रहस्त सं किर" that means "Earn with 100 hands and donate with 1000 hands." In Bhavishya Purana, while telling the importance of Annadaan to Yudhishthir, Shri Krishna had said that wealth would not follow you in your journey after death, but the food you have donated in your life will ensure you do not get hungry during the journey.

EastBay Hindu Community Center/Vijay's Sherawali Temple is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Tax ID 88-2225292 Nonprofit. The temple is dedicated to protecting and preserving Hindu traditions and Identity both religiously and culturally. The temple is open to anyone regarding race, religion, creed, or gender. Temple grounds are a judgement free zone because no one is permitted to judge others, be prideful, or feel ostracized (everyone is welcome, everyone belongs).
